Nigel Mihell: Biography
Behind the Records

Nigel Mihell has built up over 10 years of DJ and production experience, djing is without doubt one of life's great buzz's for Nigel and each and every time he gets to play it shines though that this is not work for him its fun! Nigel has an energetic and exuberant style and is not locked into any given format or genre, his parameters are that the tunes be "Tuff, Driving, Funky ... but always chunky!" and those guidelines apply to House or Breaks! Nigel plays at many established clubs across the UK such as "TYPE @ the Cross" and holds down regular slots at Windsor nights "High Jinx", and "Mischief".

During 2003 Nigel helped to start along with Midland's promoter guru John Harding Northampton's SESSIONS. He was the 2003 resident along side Alan "luvDup" Stevens and during his time as resident Nigel played along side the like of Seb Fontaine, Audio Bullies, The Stanton Warriors and Way out West, as well as the USA's Scott Stubbs. In Canada and the USA Nigel has played on the Slinky Tour In Vancouver on two occasions with John Kelly, Dave Lee, and alongside Agnelli & Nelson on the Canadian leg of the Mix-Mag Tour and also in Vancouver Nigel played at the first Trans Atlantic sortie for Seb Fontaine's TYPE night and has played at some of western Canada's best promoters such as the "Sweet" nights, "Passion" @ the Rowing Club and play's often at Vancouver premier dance music club "Gorg -oh-Mish"

In 2006 Nigel signed for Seb Fontaine at TYPE @ the Cross to play through in a new regular monthly residency slot. This continued for 2 years until unfortunately the Cross was closed to make way for the redevelopment of that area of London, thus bringing to an end one of London best attended and best loved house nights.

Nigel is now co promoter and resident dj at MiMo@ Mango in Reading. MiMo has quickly risen to be the club night in Reading, happening on the last Saturday of every week, MiMo plays to a packed, up for it fun crowd, and has hosted such dance music luminaries as Seb Fontaine, Paul Harris, Damian Wilson to name but a few. The night is now well into its second year and shows no sign of slowing down in its popularity. So if the best in tuff, tech, electro house is your bag …then get yourselves down there!!

So, onto production. Fate took its part in bringing together Nigel and Julian Napolitano (one half of the mega JDS!) together. An appreciation for the same production hardware and techniques was followed by a number of releases such as the remix of "Playing with Knives" under the "Pureal" moniker and also "Get Loud" released on Tall Paul's Label - Intensive Music.

One of the biggest success's so far in terms of production for Nigel came in 2004 with the massive Breaks hit made in collaboration with JDS once again, JDS vs MIHELL "Purple Funky Monkey" was released earlier this year on Rennie Pilgrims TCR label and was hailed across the Breaks Community as the tune to come out of the TCR camp so far... The Plump dj's called it the "biggest record ever on TCR" a Meat Katie called it "Simply Massive" the plaudits for this tune were not only limited to the Breaks world with Dj's such as Judge Jules giving the tune big airtime on Radio 1, Hernan Catteneo and Timo Mass hammering it across the world and James Zabiela calling it "Stupidly Massive!". It was nominated as Breaks Tune of 2005 at the Breaks Poll awards and finished second to non other than the Plump DJ's. The production success has continued for Nigel and he has again collaborated with Julian Napolitano, and Simon Langford, to create "Don't Mean Shit" which was released June 2005 to be a monster this year on Free2Air Recordings (www.free2airrecordings.com), this tracks has been hammered buy the like of Fat Boy Slim and the USA's DJ Dan, as well as breaks guru Rennie Pilgrim.

More recently Nigel again hooked up with Julian and Simon to create a slightly funkier track that is being hailed as a potential summer smash. Under the Soul Seekerz moniker the trio have come with "Turn Me Upside Down" constant Radio One play from Judge Jules and support from house guru's like Graeme Park. It then morphed to become the music for the commercial dance queen Dannii Minogue on her 2005 track "Perfection" which reached number 8 in the UK charts!

2006 continued to be a good year for the production side of things with Nigel releasing the track "Awake or Dreaming" under the alias ASTRO. So far it has been number one in the charts of such dance music luminaries as Deep Dish and Way out West, and is sitting at Number one in the Nokturnel.com

Another ttudio success to be signed is titled "The Gritt" and is due out on Seb's MONOTYPE label in Jan 2007 featuring mixes from Disciples of Sound , TYPE resident Wesley S and Seb Fontaine.

2008 looks to be continuing along the same vain as a collaboration with Johnny Pinkfinger has resulted in Song BMG signing the duo's remix of the forthcoming Cyndi Lauper track "into the night life" The track is a deep rumbling monster take on the original and looks set to take the terrace of Space and the dance floor of Crowbar alike!
